Zulhas Highlights The Price of Chili Rp. 20,000 per Kg is Too Cheap to Lose Farmers

Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas mentions the price chilli currently down, even the price is too cheap to the detriment of farmers.

He said the price of chili currently ranges from IDR 20,000 to IDR 30,000 per kilogram (kg). According to him, the chili price should be IDR 40,000 per kg so that farmers can make a profit.

“The price of chilies is actually cheap. Precisely if you can, it will go up a bit. In some areas, chilies are Rp. 30,000, Rp. 25,000. In Papua, chilies are Rp. 20,000, Makassar are Rp. 25,000,” said Zulhas at the Ministry of Trade’s office, Thursday (4/5).

“If possible, the chili is Rp. 40,000. If not, I feel sorry for the farmers,” he continued.

Not only chili, Zulhas also claims that the price of eggs is currently down. In Makassar, the price of eggs is said to be IDR 26,000 per kg. According to him, eggs should ideally be sold for IDR 29,000 per kg so that farmers don’t lose out.

Apart from that, said Zulhas, the price of rice also fell by IDR 200 to IDR 500 per kg. Nevertheless, he said the current price of rice was still in the range of Rp. 10,000 to Rp. 11,000 per kg

“Premium rice is still high but it’s gone down because Bulog’s market operations are extraordinary. Bulog doesn’t raise prices, right? Bulog’s good price for (premium) rice is Rp. 9,450. So (rice) is now starting to fall even though it’s decreased by Rp. 200 to Rp. 500,” he said.
