Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) records the price rice retail rose 11.34 percent on an annual basis year-on-year (yoy) or 0.48 percent on a regular basis month to month (mtm) in April 2023.
Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said the increase in rice prices did not only occur at the retail level, but also at the wholesale and milling levels.
“Wholesale rice prices in April 2023 increased compared to March 2023 or mtm also increased by 0.42 percent and when compared to last year’s April or yoy there was an increase of 15.66 percent,” he said in a press conference, Tuesday (2/5).
Meanwhile, rice price increases also occurred at the mill level, reaching 18.89 percent on an annual basis and rising 0.14 percent on a monthly basis.
The price of grain at the farm level also increased in April 2023. The price for harvested dry unhusked rice (GKP) rose 2.40 percent on a monthly basis and rose 23.62 percent on an annual basis.
The price of dry milled unhusked rice (GKG) rose 0.90 percent on a monthly basis and rose 20.32 percent on an annual basis.
On the other hand, BPS recorded inflation of 4.33 percent (year on year/yoy) in April 2023. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was realized at 0.33 percent.
Inflation occurred due to increases in various commodity prices, particularly in the transportation sector.
