Armfalcon.com, JAKARTA — The Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (Mentan SYL) and the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki signed a cooperation agreement in the livestock development business.

According to the Minister of Agriculture SYL, the moment of signing this MoU is a symbol of the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people.

“The COVID pandemic has taught us that agriculture is promising under any conditions. I hope today will become an important symbol. Don’t hesitate to cooperate with us. We are ready to build agriculture together with cooperatives,” said the Minister of Agriculture SYL on Tuesday (9/9). 5/2023).

This joint agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs aims to accelerate the growth and development of livestock businesses and downstream livestock products through cooperatives, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the livestock sector.

Menkop UMK Teten Masduki said that the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs has actually been established for a long time in the field. Because many workers in the agricultural sector are included in the micro to medium entrepreneurs.

“The challenge we face is that 13.4 million business actors in the livestock sector are still small and individuals. About 90 percent of poultry business actors in the country are independent and individual poultry farmers, so it is difficult to face conglomerates,” said Coordinating Minister for UKM, Teten Masduki.

“I think this collaboration is in an effort to develop business capital for livestock and agriculture. From individual farmers on a small scale, we consolidate with cooperatives so that the economy of scale can increase,” he continued.

On this occasion, the Minister of Agriculture SYL re-emphasized the importance of cooperatives in the agricultural sector. With the existence of KUR, breeders will be able to use new downstream technology to increase the quality and quantity of processed livestock products that have good competitiveness and selling power at home and abroad.

The business model and market planning of cooperatives can also help breeders to distribute livestock commodities in a more sustainable and efficient manner so that the income and standard of living of farmers who are members of cooperatives and MSMEs can increase.

“The Ministry of Agriculture will play cultivation. And of course we hope that the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs will facilitate the business plan to market well,” said Minister of Agriculture SYL.
