Mighty Rupiah at IDR 14,836 Thanks to High Demand for SBN

Exchange rate rupiah closed higher to the level of IDR 14,836 per US dollar on Wednesday (26/4) afternoon. The Garuda currency strengthened 103 points or 0.69 percent from the previous trade.

Meanwhile, the Bank Indonesia (BI) Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) reference rate put the rupiah strengthening to the position of Rp. 14,882 per US dollar in today’s trading.

The majority of currencies in the Asian region are observed to vary. The Malaysian ringgit fell 0.17 percent, the South Korean won fell 0.32 percent, and the Philippine peso fell 0.06 percent. Meanwhile, the Japanese yen strengthened 0.18 percent, the Chinese yuan strengthened 0.20 percent, and the Singapore dollar strengthened 0.22 percent. Meanwhile the Hong Kong dollar was stagnant.

Developed country currencies also vary. Noted, the European euro strengthened 0.40 percent, the Swiss franc strengthened 0.09 percent, and the British pound strengthened 0.35 percent. Meanwhile, the Australian dollar weakened 0.24 percent.

DCFX Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the rupiah strengthened amid positive investor sentiment and strong demand for government securities (SBN).

“The US dollar itself turned weaker today, and regional currencies are looking mixed,” he told Armfalcon.com.com.
