BSI Emphasizes Keeping Customer Data and Funds a Top Priority

Armfalcon.com, JAKARTA — PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) said that all of the company’s banking services have gradually returned to normal and recovered since Thursday (11/5/2023) yesterday. Main Director of BSI Hery Gunardi emphasized that his party is always improving and making improvements to the security of the company’s IT system based on established guidelines and standards.

“In fact, disruptions in IT BSI can be recovered (recover operation) immediately and this is an response recovery the good one. Our top priority is protecting customer data and funds,” said Hery, Saturday (13/5/2023).

Hery stressed, BSI continues to strengthen the company’s technology security in a special division under the CISO (Chief Information and Security Officer). The way CISO i works is the same as a physical security guard, doing patrols, but patrols from a technological point of view.

“CISO will look at weak points that must be closed. This is an effort to protect customer data and BSI continues to work closely and coordinate with relevant authorities, will take the necessary steps and comply with applicable regulations,” he explained .

Previously, Account @darktracer_int via a tweet on Twitter, Saturday (13/5/2023), stated that LockBit Ransomware claimed responsibility for the disturbance that occurred at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). The disturbance was the result of their attack.

“They also announced that they stole 15 million customer records, employee information and around 1.5 terabytes of internal data. They claim they will release the data on the dark web if negotiations fail,” the tweet said. @darktracer.

Indonesian Islamic University (UII) Digital Forensic Expert, Yudi Prayudi asked BSO to take immediate steps to protect customers and their data. Including, BSI must immediately inform customers regarding this incident.

“To deal with the impact of this attack, banks must immediately take steps to protect customers and their data, such as notifying customers of the incident, advising them to change passwords and improve account security, and monitoring suspicious activity on affected accounts. ,” he told Republika.co.id, Saturday (13/5/2023).

In addition, BSI should also cooperate with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and take precautions to prevent similar attacks from happening in the future.
