Breeders Suggest Rice Wrapped Legislature Participates in Triggering the Increase in Egg Prices

Farmers suspect price increases egg Recently, it has been triggered by the season for registering candidates for legislative members (caleg). This is because the demand for packaged rice usually increases during this season.

“This May, the registration for legislative candidates has started evenly throughout Indonesia. Automatically the need for packaged rice or rames rice will also increase,” said the President of Layer Breeders Indonesia and Deputy Chairperson of the HKTI for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Ki Musbar Mesdi to (15/5).

He said the increase in demand for packaged rice had pushed up the price of eggs. This is because eggs are often used as a side dish for packaged rice.

According to Musbar, the price of eggs is also getting more expensive because it adjusts to supply and demand conditions. In this case, according to Musbar, the laying hen population has not recovered 100 percent.

In addition, the increase in egg prices also occurred following the increase in the cost of production in line with the increase in factory feed prices. Meanwhile, the government cannot intervene in factories.

Not only that, the government’s activities in absorbing chicken meat and eggs for the National Food Agency’s (Bapanas) Vulnerable Families (KRS) program also played a role.

In view of this, Musbar considers that Bapanas needs to evaluate the Regulation of the National Food Agency of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2022 concerning Reference Prices for Sales at the Consumer Level for Corn Commodities, Purebred Chicken Eggs, and Purebred Chicken Meat.

The price of purebred chicken eggs has been increasing in recent times. As of Monday (15/5), the average price of eggs in Jakarta reached IDR 30,932 per kg or an increase of IDR 214 per day.

Based on the Jakarta Food Info, the most expensive broiler eggs are sold at West Tebet Market, South Jakarta, which is IDR 34,000 per kg. Meanwhile, the cheapest is at Pasar Cibubur, East Jakarta, for IDR 28,000 per kg.
