Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa fending off the sarcasm of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan who call it often indulgence in ‘promises of heaven’.
“I don’t think Pak Luhut means that. Pak Luhut doesn’t mean that, I’ve tried asking. Because Bappenas uses technocratic language and is always measured,” he said at the JCC, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (16/5).
“Bappenas, for example, drew up the Long Term Development Plan (RPJP), the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN), then the Government Work Plan (RKP). I don’t think all this is ‘painting the sky’ language, but technocratic language. This has to be achieved, this is all , that’s all. That’s technocratic,” said Suharso.
Suharso said Bappenas was not an executive agency that had to work directly on solving problems in the field. However, Bappenas is here to offer options or solutions that can be chosen by local governments to related ministries/agencies (K/L).
He then gave an example of the Bappenas warning regarding the contribution of the manufacturing industry sector to Indonesia’s economic growth. According to him, Bappenas has repeatedly warned the sector not to remain sluggish.
“We will design, orchestrate so that all these activities lead to convergence. In the end, we will calculate the development targets, poverty will decrease, the growth rate will increase,” he said.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan reported on Bappenas’ actions which were considered to spread ‘promises of heaven’ to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to him, the main thing that needs to be pursued is how to achieve all of these targets.
“I also corrected the Bappenas to the President (Jokowi). Sir, he promised heaven, prosperity justice, that’s the language. But how do we do it? How do we execute? That is what I think is more important,” Luhut said at The Westin Jakarta, Tuesday (9/5).
